(\223liberty\224 and \223freedom\224 as destabilizing forces. Take, as on\
e example, women\222s rights. It is an )Tj

(idea so firmly ingrained in western societies that even the most deeply \
conservative Republican )Tj

(doesn\222t believe and wouldn\222t seriously suggest that women shouldn\222\
t have the right to vote, or )Tj

(drive, or work outside the home. But, in most Middle Eastern countries, \
giving women these )Tj
T*
(rights would be seriously destabilizing. Now in the abstract, in the lon\
g run, and from a )Tj
T*
(Westerner\222s perspective, opening these societies might be a good thin\
g, but is it worth creating )Tj
T*
(a potentially dangerous situation.)Tj

(Bush, and many Americans, forget that it took nearly five hundred years \

(\223liberty\224 and \223freedom\224 to fully develop in the west. And th\

(remember the turmoil of our own struggles to achieve freedom and liberty\

(call for the expansion of liberty with America\222s own historic desire \

(by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.\224 There is a differe\
nce between that phrase, and )Tj

(Bush\222s reinterpretation of it. The role of religion in government was\
debated during the nation\222s )Tj

(founding, and the founders purposefully separated \223church\224 and \223\
state.\224 The only mention of )Tj

(religion in the original \(unamended\) Constitution is Article 6, Sectio\
n 3, which prohibits a )Tj

(\223religious test\224 for government office holders. Modern Christians \
\(like Bush\) conveniently ignore )Tj

(this, and claim that religion \(and in particular Christianity\) was so \
pervasive that there was no )Tj

(need to mention God, Christ, or religion in the Constitution. This ignor\
es the vigorous debate )Tj

(during the ratification process in the states. Many prominent Christians\
decried the lack of )Tj

(reference or deference to a deity in the Constitution, but despite their\
arguments, the )Tj

(Constitution was ratified.)Tj
